On Saturday February 27 over 100 people attended the JP Time Exchange’s Birthday Party and Stuff Swap. Great stuff was swapped, friendships were made and rekindled, stories were told, and 20 folks joined the Time Exchange. The Exchange now has 300 members after just one year! We are especially excited to welcome neighbors from the JP Adult Learning Centers to both the event and the Exchange. These new members can offer language lessons, cooking, and much more.
Member Nicole Mazzeo explains why she loved the event: “I found a bunch of really useful stuff that I’d been looking for,” she says. “I got a CD of my favorite band, a book that I’ve been wanting to read that’s by a local artist so it’s not easy to find secondhand, and an electric tea kettle! I am psyched to be able to get these things for free from people who have no use for them anymore, rather than having to buy them new.”
By avoiding unnecessary consumption and connecting with neighbors, Nicole and other Exchange members are helping build a new, sustainable economy right here in JP. Even better, we’re part of an international movement: hundreds of time exchanges around the world are helping people save money, share skills, and build community.
