At a “Preparedness Pie Party,” 10-20 neighbors gather to get to know each other and take some concrete steps toward emergency preparedness.
Some very basic preparation can mean the difference between a resilient, well-coordinated community response, and a group of disconnected, isolated neighbors waiting for help from afar. But these parties aren’t just about preparing for disasters. They are also designed to build mutual aid, solidarity, and resource sharing.
“The Emergency Preparedness Pie Party went really well. I am so pleased that I took this on, and even more pleased that you guys came up with the idea originally. It was a wonderful community building event. I have lived on the street for almost 7 years, and I have never before really felt like I belonged here … that these were my people … that this was my real community. We only had 10 households represented, out of the 36 on our block, and yet this was enough for me to feel like I live with other human beings who I like, and that we could learn to take care of each other!”

Interested in Having a Pie Party in Your Neighborhood? It’s Easy, and We Can Help! Contact us at email@example.com for help, we’re happy to connect and walk you through the process.
1. Download the Organizers’s Toolkit.
JP NET has developed an Organizer’s Toolkit for those who are interested in hosting an Emergency Preparedness Pie Party. The toolkit is downloadable in both PDF and Word document formats, so that you can use the templates that we’ve developed. But all of these documents are merely samples! You should make the agenda, the format, and the tools work for you and your neighbors—and then please let us know what was successful (or what wasn’t). We would love to have the opportunity to incorporate what you learn into these materials so that others can benefit.
