JP NET is led by the passions of those who jump in and get involved. Monthly potlucks help us coordinate our activities and learn more about what is already happening throughout Jamaica Plain. The best way to plug-in is to come to the potlucks and join an existing group, our announce your interests and see if others will work with you!
Current working groups include:
JP Resiliency Measures: “community resilience” is a tricky concept. Jenny and Jana are leading a team of folks who have been talking about how we can begin to track our progress towards enhanced community resilience.
- Read their assessment of how resilient we are
- Get involved! Join their Google Group
- Take the survey to help us measure JP’s resilience
Year-round Farmers Market: Kate and several neighbors in Egleston Square are researching the potential demand and possible space for a farmer’s market that would stay open through the winter.
Complete Streets: Rhea is working to make streets safer for pedestrians, bikes, and community gathering spots.
Policy Change: Terry, Drew, and others are interested in identifying what policy changes need to be made at the city and state level to support our work to build a more resilient JP.
Backyard Chickens: Dakota is eager to make rearing chickens easy and fun to do in Jamaica Plain. She is looking for others to plan and scheme with.
Potluck Planning: Potlucks happen once per month and feature local speakers sharing about their work, yummy food, and break-out groups. They are a good way to reach out to more neighbors and help people find out about what we are doing. We need help to keep these potlucks going, identify good local speakers to invite, and make them more accessible for parents and Spanish-only speakers.
