Just like the President offers a State of the Union, and the Mayor offers a State of the City, JP NET is proud to present…
State of Our Neighborhood 2011
On February 15, 2011, we had our 1st annual Jamaica Plain State of our Neighborhood Forum at English High School from 6-8:30pm. Over 250 neighbors attended in a hugely successful event.

Speakers
Sandee Storey, the founding editor of the JP Gazette, moderated a panel consisting of JP’s elected representatives:
Also part of the panel was a youth delegation from Spontaneous Celebration’s Beantown Society.
Panelists were asked to speak on their priorities for the coming year and to connect these to their long-term vision for the neighborhood. The panels comments were followed by a brief question and answer period.
Afterwards, approximately 125 JP residents stayed for further discussion in break-out groups on the themes of Gentrification, Public Safety/Peace in Our Community, Economic Insecurity, Youth Issues, and Environmental Issues.
This event was co-convened by JPNDC and the JP Forum, and co-sponsored by Bikes not Bombs, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, Boston Climate Action Network – Cool JP, City Growers, City Feed & Supply, Common Security Clubs, Egleston Square Main Streets, ESAC, Franklin Park Coalition, Institute for Policy Studies, Neighborhood Pesticide Action Committee, NeighborsforNeighbors.org, and the JP Greenhouse.
In 2012 we aim to have the 2nd Annual JP State of Our Neighborhood forum, again gathering our elected officials for conversation with JP neighbors and residents.
